Yannick Lahti

Yannick D. O. Lahti is a political scientist at LUT University and a former postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Helsinki. He received his PhD in 2022 from the University of Bologna, where his doctoral research examined European populism, populist actors, and political communication during the 2019 European Union elections within the hybrid media system.
His research interests include populist theory, political communication, democracy theory, and the role of populism in labour markets. Alongside his academic work, Lahti actively collaborates with journalists to bring research-based insights into public debate. Currently, besides working on the TAIMI project, he is working with award-winning journalist Matti Mörttinen on their third joint book, Jäähyväiset demokratialle (A Farewell to Democracy), scheduled for publication in autumn 2026.
Their previous books, Populismin anatomia / The Anatomy of Populism (2023) and Politiikan pinnan vangit / The Prisoners of Political Shallowness (2024), received both critical and commercial acclaim in Finland. Outside academia, Lahti enjoys good coffee, football, boxing, and spending time with his family at their mountain retreat in the Italian Alps.
