TAIMI and NODEwork Researchers Discuss Migrant Recruitment and Retention in Rovaniemi
Strong collaborations often begin with open conversations in new environments.

Rovaniemi (23–24 April), TAIMI researchers Markku Sippola, Shahnaj Begum, and Wanying Nicole Yan met with NODEwork researchers Jaanika Kingumets and Paul Jonker-Hoffrén to exchange ideas on one timely and important question: how Finland can better facilitate the recruitment and retention of migrants in the labour market.
The discussions explored the role of inclusion, diversity, and long-term sustainability in working life. Being in Lapland also brought a broader perspective to the conversations. The surrounding forest ecosystem served as a reminder that resilience is often built through diversity, adaptation, and coexistence.
Similarly, labour markets and societies benefit from different backgrounds, experiences, and skills. Diversity is not an obstacle to overcome, but a resource that strengthens organizations and communities as a whole.
Alongside participating in a seminar at the University of Lapland, the researchers also had the opportunity to visit Rovala and learn more about local initiatives and collaboration opportunities.
Warm thanks to Tuija Saarelainen-Stark and Kirsi Hartikainen for the generous welcome and valuable discussions.
We look forward to continued cooperation and future collaboration.
